I found a dresser I loved for this room, but I did not like the price (around $4,000). I found a few other dressers I liked, but with shipping delays and backordered furniture, I decided to try to make a dupe. I built a base and added legs and hardware, and voilà!

Thank goodness this turned out well. This. Project. Took. So. Much. Time. And. Effort. Honestly, I LOVE this room (I even had someone working on my home ask about my beautiful “wallpaper” and I almost fell over because I was so excited); but I am not sure I would tackle this project again.

What a headache. That’s all I really need to write about a playroom, right? The problem with a playroom is the minute it’s tidy, they mess it up. Immediately. Every time. I have come to the realization that the playroom is such a daunting area because of the amount of stuff and categories of stuff paired with no where to put everything. Clean up takes forever and keeping it even somewhat organized seems impossible.

My daughter loves to read books and I wanted to incorporate a reading area into the playroom makeover. What better place than an otherwise wasted space in a dormer window nook? On Instagram, I saw a light trick to add a light fixture without hardwiring a light and I thought I would try it here.

One of the hardest parts about playrooms is the sheer volume of items (big and small) and all of the different categories of toys. This IKEA KALLAX unit makes it easy to come up with a system to divide and conquer all of the toys, which I love.

This unit creates a cohesive look with the other furniture pieces I have done in this room and allows for a lot of storage. Not surprisingly, I wanted to jazz it up a bit to make it look more customized. But this was a pretty straightforward and easy project.

Kids. have. so. much. stuff. And inefficiency in any closet can be a total waste, but especially in a child’s closet. It is so easy to avoid the clutter and live with it in disarray. I certainly did. I used to make sure the door to the closet was shut because that was the only way for me to try to ignore the disorganization. But now, I have a system that is working to keep the space organized.

So, my IKEA kick continues. I updated two IKEA MALM dressers to make them nightstands for the guest room/playroom project. Again, as a novice DIY-er, I am very proud of how they came out and I learned quite a bit. And as nightstands, they have so much storage!

This space often gets overlooked. And on top of that, it is a tricky space with the pipes and disposal. It’s easy to live with it disorganized and cluttered, and not think much about it. But goodness is it satisfying when it is nice and organized!

This can be a tricky space to keep organized. There are a lot of products and a lot categories of products, some of which are needed everyday and some only seldom used. This is also an area that I think items tend to make their way to the back and live passed their expiration, especially those that are not used very often.

My daughter loves playing with her play kitchen and accessories. It will keep her busy and her imagination running wild for hours, which makes my mommy heart so happy. But the Mrs. B. Organized side of me dreaded the mess and play food items everywhere… my organization brain had an idea to jazz up the IKEA DUKTIG play kitchen and add a refrigerator for storage.

When I say this was a labor of love, I certainly mean it. I learned to use a saw, a sander, cooper pipe cutter, and how to cut a circular hole. This is by no means perfect and it was a lot of work (and problem solving), but it came out adorable! Most importantly, my daughter loves it. And Mrs. B. loves that the dress up clothes are not laying around and can be organized.

This project was incredibly simple and quick! This is part of a bigger project I am slowly but surely working to complete. I wanted the easel to match the IKEA Lätt children’s table project in hopes of having a cohesive play room in the near future. It came out really cute…
