“FOR EVERY MINUTE SPENT IN ORGANIZING, AN HOUR IS EARNED.”
—BENJAMIN FRANKLIN
UNDER THE KITCHEN SINK
This space often gets overlooked. And on top of that, it is a tricky space with the pipes and disposal. It’s easy to live with it disorganized and cluttered, and not think much about it. But goodness is it satisfying when it is nice and organized!
UNDER THE BATHROOM SINK
This can be a tricky space to keep organized. There are a lot of products and a lot categories of products, some of which are needed everyday and some only seldom used. This is also an area that I think items tend to make their way to the back and live passed their expiration, especially those that are not used very often.
IKEA HACK- PLAY KITCHEN AND REFRIGERATOR
My daughter loves playing with her play kitchen and accessories. It will keep her busy and her imagination running wild for hours, which makes my mommy heart so happy. But the Mrs. B. Organized side of me dreaded the mess and play food items everywhere… my organization brain had an idea to jazz up the IKEA DUKTIG play kitchen and add a refrigerator for storage.
DRESS UP CLOTHES RACK
When I say this was a labor of love, I certainly mean it. I learned to use a saw, a sander, cooper pipe cutter, and how to cut a circular hole. This is by no means perfect and it was a lot of work (and problem solving), but it came out adorable! Most importantly, my daughter loves it. And Mrs. B. loves that the dress up clothes are not laying around and can be organized.
BE ORGANIZED IN THE NEW YEAR
I have never been a fan of New Year’s resolutions. But I am a fan of the “fresh start” spirit that comes with a new year. I think one of the reasons I dislike New Year’s resolutions is that a sense of failure can come with it if things do not go according to plan. There is no failure in self-evaluation and taking steps toward a better future. There is also no failure in getting organized…
MRS. B. ORGANIZED FAVORITES
Here is a list of Mrs. B.’s favorite organization items. After the holidays and after the holiday decor comes down, it is a wonderful time to implement some new organization products and systems in your home and in your life. Check out a few of my favorites for the New Year!
MORE STORAGE IS NOT ALWAYS EFFICIENT
This project was the perfect example of having an inefficient use of space. I had a lot of storage, but I was not properly using it. Our laundry room transformed from a graveyard of miscellaneous items and half-empty cabinets, to a space to do laundry. Imagine that!
IKEA HACK- MÅLA EASEL
This project was incredibly simple and quick! This is part of a bigger project I am slowly but surely working to complete. I wanted the easel to match the IKEA Lätt children’s table project in hopes of having a cohesive play room in the near future. It came out really cute…
IKEA HACK- LÄTT CHILDREN’S TABLE
Truth be told, I never really considered myself much of a DIY-er. But maybe that is changing? I scoured the internet for a children’s table that I liked, and they were either too plain or too expensive. So I thought I would try my hand at upgrading one to fit what I wanted.
WEEKDAY WARDROBE
Fingers crossed people are going back to work and school, in a safe and healthy manner, and this post can be useful. If you are on a new schedule and/or routine, now might be the time to implement a new system!
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS KIT
To determine what you need, first ask who is this kit for… How many people (and pets) do you need to prepare for? Babies? Children? Elderly? Medical conditions? Next, what kind of emergency/emergencies are you preparing for? Hurricane? Tornado? Earthquake? Pandemic? Shelter in place? Evacuation? These questions will help determine the amount of supplies and some specific supplies needed.
(EARLY) HOLIDAY PLANNING
This year it might be even more important to plan ahead for the holidays. Stores may not be open or may be open with limited capacity; inventory might be low or stores might experience lag-time in stocking items; shopping in person might not be possible; travel may be difficult or hindered; all the more reason to think about these things ahead of time. My big piece of advice is get organized, however you can, for the holidays early this year…
THE CHALLENGE— TEN THINGS TO ORGANIZE
I thought it would be helpful to have a challenge this week to write down ten things in your life that need a little organization. Not in any kind of order and not necessarily in order of importance. I think putting it in writing (or putting a note in your phone or email) is thought provoking and helpful to get the ideas out of your head.
DOCUMENT STORAGE
My goal was for these posts to serve as a reference and as source of information. Documents and paper can be such a source of stress at home, whether its lost or misplaced items, paper scattered everywhere, or an unorganized system. You have to find a system that works for you in order for the system to serve its purpose. My system will not work for everyone, but some of my ideas might resonate with you and help you create a practical way of storing all of these items.
IMPORTANT PERSONAL DOCUMENTS
Searching for important documents when you really need them is the last thing you want to do. Especially since the process to replace some of them can take time. And with the ever-growing concerns over safety and identity theft, its important to know that these documents are in your possession and keep it that way. Better be safe than sorry!
ORGANIZATION PROCESS
I wanted my first post to serve as an introduction to the Mrs. B. Organized process. See the About page for my background and crazy lifestyle, and how I got here. Then, with this process as a base line, I want to share posts about specific projects and ideas.
